Would you like to make a positive difference within a welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school?

If so, this Attendance Officer opportunity could be the perfect role for you.

The Role - Attendance Officer

A welcoming and inclusive mainstream secondary school in the London Borough of Islington is seeking to appoint an experienced Attendance Officer to join its administrative and pastoral support team on a long-term basis, starting ASAP.

As the successful Attendance Officer, you will be responsible for monitoring student attendance and punctuality across KS3 and KS4, ensuring that attendance information is accurate and up to date. You will use SIMS to track absence patterns, identify students at risk of persistent absence and provide attendance information to relevant members of staff.

You will follow up on unexplained absences, contact parents and carers regarding attendance concerns, record reasons for absence and support the school in maintaining accurate attendance registers. Working closely with Heads of Year, pastoral staff, safeguarding teams and senior leadership, you will help identify attendance concerns and contribute to strategies designed to improve student attendance.

Additional responsibilities may include producing attendance reports, monitoring persistent absence, supporting attendance meetings and helping the school communicate attendance expectations to families. You will play an important role in ensuring that concerns are followed up promptly and that appropriate attendance procedures are consistently implemented.

Previous experience working within a secondary school is essential, as is experience using SIMS. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong administrative and organisational skills, excellent attention to detail and confident communication skills when liaising with parents, carers and colleagues.

The ideal candidate will be proactive, professional and well organised, with the ability to manage sensitive information confidentially and work effectively in a busy school environment.
