The programme represents the next generation of the UKs biometric capability replacing and integrating with legacy systems and other government departments. As a Java L3 resource you will be responsible for triaging and resolving production issues on priority and solving complex technical support challenges, troubleshooting, debugging and relaying relevant product issues and bugs to the delivery team. The role requires in-depth understanding of the software development lifecycle and strong technical experience with an open-minded attitude and ability to rapidly adapt and learn.

Must have skills:

  • Extensive server-side, hands-on Java 8+ development experience with strong Spring, Spring Boot & Hibernate
  • Strong understanding of Microservice architecture
  • Experience building web services and APIs on REST
  • Strong understanding of unit & integration tests, following TDD / BDD
  • Experience using test frameworks like Junit, Mockito, Power Mockito & Wire mock
  • Experience and understanding of CICD pipeline of Docker, Jenkins and Kubernetes
  • Understanding of all the agile ceremonies
  • Good understanding of JSON and XML
  • Experience in Relational Database Management System (e.g. PostgreSQL)

Nice to have skills:

  • Knowledge of Workflow/Business Process Management tools
  • Experience with front end technologies: HTML, JavaScript, jQuery, Mustache Templates
  • Experience with Performance and Monitoring tools: JMeter, Kibana, Splunk, Dynatrace
  • Experience writing Shell script
  • Basic understanding of Python
  • Good understanding on AWS services (EC2, ECS, EKS, API Gateway and Serverless technologies)
  • Integration Engine tools: Apache Camel and Active MQ for messaging, web services and distributed systems
  • Public Sector domain experience preferable
