The engineer will work within the Analogue/RF group. The role covers pre-silicon verification, development of Radio firmware sequences and lab validation of radio transceiver performance. The role is nominally a 50:50 split between pre-silicon activities and RF Lab evaluation/performance debug. The role involves pre-silicon verification of transceiver functionality using Cadence Virtuoso, development of radio control sequences to ensure full coverage of transceiver functionality for use in verification, lab evaluation and radio firmware. Close liaison with the firmware team is required to ensure provision of functionality and appropriate API interface.

Post-silicon activities will involve lab evaluation of transceiver performance, debug and root-cause analysis of RF performance limitations, working closely with analog circuit designers to propose solutions. The candidate will have experience of lab evaluation of radio transceivers, using automated control within a Python or Matlab environment. Additionally, knowledge of transceiver architectures and RF measurement techniques along with an understanding of key transceiver performance metrics is required. Ideally the candidate will have knowledge of Radio Firmware and pre-silicon verification, however training can be provided in this area.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 4+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 3+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.
  • PhD in Computer Science, Electrical/Electronics Engineering, Engineering, or related field and 2+ years of Hardware Engineering or related work experience.

Essential Technical Experience:

  • 5 or more years of industrial experience in analogue/RF IC lab evaluation.
  • Understanding of on-chip radio transceiver architectures and evaluation/measurement techniques.
  • Overview knowledge of sub systems including: ADC, DAC, PLL, VCO, PA, LNA, Mixer, Filter, crystal oscillator.
  • Solid understanding of the fundamentals of analogue/RF measurement techniques and performance metrics.
  • Competent in automation of RF test equipment in a Python/Matlab environment, combined with analysis/presentation of data.
  • Experience and detailed knowledge of the advanced use of RF related laboratory equipment e.g. spectrum analyzer, signal generators, VNA, Load Pull, Phase noise measurement, Modulation Analyzers.
  • Experience of investigating on-chip performance limitations with radio transceivers.
  • Able to share own experience with junior engineers and to provide guidance.
  • Familiarity of the system requirements on one or more of the following wireless standard: WLAN, BT, EDGE, GSM, LTE.

Desirable Technical Experience:

  • 10 or more years of industrial experience in analogue/RF IC lab evaluation.
  • Proven track record of delivering transceiver lab evaluation and driving performance investigations with minimal supervision.
  • Contributed to the development of lab evaluation operating environment and methodologies.
  • Working knowledge of Verilog-AMS modelling, pre-silicon verification in a cadence environment, Matlab and Python.

What's on Offer:

  • Salary, stock and performance related bonus.
