The Design Director, Development – Europe is responsible for leading and managing the team involved in design, preconstruction, and construction activities across designated regions. The role involves daily interaction with Design Managers, external consultants, facilities, contractors, designers, engineers, commissioning agents, vendors, and Data Center Operations staff. Excellent written and oral communication skills are essential for this role.
Responsibilities include:
- Managing multiple Design Managers and key projects, maintaining budgets, schedules, and status reports.
- Creating and communicating design updates for executive review.
- Collaborating with stakeholders to develop comprehensive campus design solutions.
- Managing design input for entitlement and permitting processes.
- Implementing and managing design input on phased site development plans.
- Writing scopes of work and participating in procurement and cost estimation.
- Supporting evaluation and pricing proposals for services.
- Working with procurement teams on equipment procurement and delivery.
- Coordinating submittals with site stakeholders.
- Establishing project schedules and managing design teams for timely completion.
- Reviewing change order requests.
- Developing deployment plans and liaising with internal teams and clients.
- Representing QTS interests in meetings and building stakeholder relationships.
- Supporting due diligence for new site opportunities.
- Enhancing project management processes.
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in science or engineering or equivalent experience.
- 15+ years in commercial construction, managing various project delivery methods.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam, Revit, BIM 360, ACC, Microsoft Office Suite.
- Ability to travel up to 25%.
Preferred Qualifications:
- MBA or master's in engineering, management, or related fields.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Experience with mission-critical data center facilities and management of MEP trades.
