He Tawharau is an exciting new mental health initiative for the care of whānau experiencing mental distress. This service is managed by Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga in collaboration with our service partners Te Whatu Ora, MSD and Police to provide whānau centric care, where the needs of the whānau are at the centre of the model of care for the service. Te Taiwhenua o Heretaunga (TToH) is a health and social services provider, supporting our local community in Hawkes Bay. We are a values-based organisation who thread our cultural values of Whakamana, Kaitiakitanga, Whanaungatanga and Kotahitanga through everything we do.

As the step-down service from the Mental Health Unit at Hastings Memorial hospital, we provide short term care and clinical support to whānau as they continue on their wellness journey. This is a 6 bed Crisis Respite service. Providing 24/7 care, we have 12 hour shift rosters [am and pm] with a MH Nurse and MH Kaimanaaki working together on each shift.

We are looking for Mental Health Nurses to provide casual cover as required for our permanent Nurse workforce. We have plenty of mahi – you tell us when you are available to work and how many hours you want to work.

What you’ll do:

  • Provide professional and clinical care to whaiora
  • Work together with your Kaimanaaki shift partner to provide consistency of care on shift
  • Work in close partnership with kaimahi from Te Whatu Ora, MSD and Police
  • Provide specialist care working collaboratively with other Taiwhenua services and external providers
  • Coordinate wrap around social support to strengthen whānau’s ongoing wellness recovery

What we are looking for:

  • Applicants who are NZ Registered MH Nurses, or MH Practitioner under HPCA Act 2003, or other registered professionals
  • Experience in an acute mental health setting, In patient Unit or in the community
  • Anti-psychotic medication training
  • De-escalation skills and a calm nature
  • A positive mindset and passion for providing mental health support
  • Knowledge of Te Whare Tapa Wha and/or other Te Ao Māori models of care
  • Commitment to providing care based on our kaupapa Māori values
  • Current First Aid certificate
  • A Full Driver’s Licence
