The Role

As a Site Safety Lead, you will act in business partner capacity to provide support, competent and professional safety advice to the Site Operational Team in order to develop and continually improve all aspects of our safety culture, performance and management in accordance with the safety management system and relevant legislative requirements. Day‑to‑day, you’ll drive a step change in the safety culture across the business contributing to improved safety performance, building close working relationship with the Head of Site (HoS) and working flexibly to deliver against the Key Accountabilities described below.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Work in partnership with the Head of Site and Site Compliance Lead to provide competent and professional health, safety and occasional environmental advice to operational and delivery teams.
  • Lead a practical implementation and delivery of HSE legislation, policy, strategy and objectives; applying high professional standards through building strong professional internal networks.
  • Across the organisation and in partnership with the Site Safety Lead community, deliver the safety improvements and changes through a process of training, mentoring, coaching and facilitating.
  • Monitor HSE performance across the business; leading, conducting and supporting 1st line assurance, local inspection, tour and sampling programmes and support business areas in maintaining ISO certification as necessary.
  • Provide access to standardised HSE performance metrics for use at local management review forums and provide competent occupational health and safety advice on performance and opportunities for improvement.
  • Review and close out health and safety incident reporting, working with business / functional contacts to help them improve data quality, and support the investigation/management of environmental incidents, commensurate with their significance/impact.

Essential experience of the Site Safety Lead:

  • Experience of managing Health & Safety in the workplace either as HSE Practitioner or in delivery role with key HSE responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge and experience of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 management system awareness.
  • Recognised training in accident investigation including root cause analysis techniques.
  • Knowledge and experience in working with UK Regulatory authorities.
  • Proven ability and experience of leading and implementing change and improving safety outcomes within complex matrix organisations through proactive ownership and delivery.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; able to express complex issues using clear language and able to prioritise while managing multiple priorities.

Essential qualifications for the Site Safety Lead:

  • Level 3 or Diploma in Health and Safety or equivalent.
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status of a relevant professional body.

This role is 37 hours per week on a 12 month fixed term contract, based at our Pendine site with a minimum average site attendance of four days per week.
