The Role
As a Range Support Technician, you will be part of a hands‑on operational team responsible for delivering naval trials by physically deploying, moving, and recovering equipment across both marine and land environments.
Responsibilities
- Day‑to‑day duties include working outdoors in a varied and practical role by operating boats and heavy equipment, supporting test activities, and ensuring trials run safely and effectively from set‑up through to completion.
- Operating boats (including RIBs) to deploy and recover equipment during trials.
- Supporting naval test activities by placing and retrieving equipment in the water.
- Operating plant and vehicles (HGVs, cranes, forklifts, telehandlers) to move and position equipment.
- Preparing, loading, and unloading trial equipment safely and efficiently.
- Supporting a variety of test activities including underwater systems, weapons trials, and maritime operations.
- Working as part of a close‑knit team to deliver safe and successful trial outcomes.
Essential Experience
- Experience working in a practical, hands‑on environment.
- Comfortable working outdoors and at sea.
- Experience operating vehicles or plant equipment (e.g. forklifts, cranes, HGVs or similar).
- Strong awareness of safety and ability to follow procedures.
- Ability to work as part of a team in a dynamic operational environment.
- Good problem‑solving skills and a proactive attitude.
Essential Qualifications
- Full UK driving licence.
- Willingness and ability to obtain relevant licences (e.g. plant, marine, HGV).
- Ability to meet medical and sea survival requirements.
Working Conditions
This role is 37 hours per week based at our BUTEC (British Underwater Test & Evaluation Centre) site with a minimum average site attendance of 5 days per week.
