About us

We’ve been around for about ten years and grown from being a little-known tech start-up to creating our own community at the heart of the thriving and diverse tech and digital ecosystem of Greater Manchester. As part of our future journey we’re looking to create footprints in other areas of the UK, and in this instance around the Portsmouth and Salisbury Plains area. Our name Naimuri is Japanese and simply means… ‘nai’ meaning ‘not’ ‘muri’ meaning ‘overburden’. These principles apply to every aspect of an organisation from technology, process and infrastructure, through to people, culture and leadership. This means that we empower our teams to do what they think is the right thing, giving them the skills and confidence to explore new ways of working, and to create a bias‑free environment, where all our people feel comfortable collaborating to deliver the finest ideas and solutions in an agile environment. Our business is focused on 4 cornerstones, which shape and underpin the way in which we go about work and treat each other. These are: Wellbeing, Empowerment, Perpetual Edge and Delivery. People and culture are at the heart of Naimuri, so that collectively, we can realise our mission of ‘making the UK a safer place to be’.

About the role

We are seeking a talented and passionate Full Stack Software Engineer to join either a software delivery team which is already supporting, or about to start supporting projects initially within the Defence sector, but with opportunities to work in other sectors in the future.

What You'll Do

  • Support the development of application functionality and features.
  • Write clean, well‑documented, and testable code, adhering to best practices and coding standards.
  • Implement and maintain unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to ensure application quality and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring code quality.
  • Stay up‑to‑date with the latest technologies, frameworks, and best practices.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of our development processes and tools.

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Proven professional experience as a Software Engineer or similar role (3+ years).
  • Previous demonstrable experience in delivery through Agile methodologies.
  • Experience with: JavaScript (ES6+), TypeScript, .ASP.NET Core/.NET WebAPI, SQL, React, NextJS, NodeJS.
  • Experience of full stack development.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git).
  • Awareness of software development best practices, including testing, debugging, and performance optimization.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.

It would be advantageous if you also had:

  • Prior experience working in the Defence domain.

  • Experience of e2e testing using Cypress or Playwright.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines.

Location

Whilst our Head Office is based in Salford Quays, Manchester, with satellite offices in London and Cheltenham, the location for this role is in, or around the area of Portsmouth. The role would be hybrid working where you can work from home for part of your working week with time on site being based on the needs of your assigned delivery and agreed Ways of Working for your team. Onsite location would be in Portsmouth primarily, and would normally be a maximum of one or two days per week based on specific delivery demand but you would be welcome to spend more days in the office if you preferred. There would be occasional travel to Manchester estimated to be no more than once or twice a year.

About you

We’re looking for someone with strong experience in developing software solutions and a proven ability to deliver at pace. You should have some opinions on:

  • What good code looks like (front end or back end).
  • How to select appropriate technologies for a solution.
  • How to spot smells in the code.

Knowledge of developing on the cloud is preferred, although not essential. Solid fundamentals with software development, systems integration, problem solving, and teamwork pave the way. You might have a degree, it might be in a related field. You might not, and you can demonstrate how you’ve trodden the path for yourself.

Pay and benefits

Naimuri pays competitively within the industry based on your role's base location rates. The salary for this position is dependent upon your experience.
