The Role
As a Range Operations Officer, you will play a key role in supporting safe and effective test and evaluation activities within a live firing environment. Day‑to‑day, you’ll support live firing trials, monitor range safety systems and carry out preparation and data activities on non‑firing days so that operations run safely and efficiently.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Supporting live firing trials and range activities in line with safety procedures
- Monitoring CCTV and range control systems to ensure firing areas are clear
- Setting up and removing test and range equipment
- Recording, reviewing and maintaining operational data
- Working closely with on‑site teams to support range operations
Essential experience of the Range Operations Officer:
- Experience using Microsoft Office applications
- Strong administrative skills with good attention to detail
- Background in IT or Electronics with hands‑on troubleshooting experience
- Ability to work in safety‑critical or regulated environments
- Strong communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Willingness to learn and develop within a specialist operational role
Essential qualifications for the Range Operations Officer:
- IT or Electronics qualification at Level 2, NVQ or City & Guilds
- Or equivalent practical experience in an IT or electronic environment
This role is 37 hours per week based at MOD Eskmeals, Millom, Cumbria. Set working times are 7.30am – 4.00pm Monday to Thursday and 7.30am – 12.30pm on Friday. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.
