The Role: As a Mechanical and Electrical Technician, we are looking for a positive and proactive individual to carry out the maintenance of the testing facilities at QinetiQ’s Environmental Test Centre in Shoeburyness. Day-to-day, you’ll be involved in fixing and maintaining a wide range of equipment, machinery and systems resolving issues quickly and efficiently through applying personal practical skills to fix it. Your responsibilities will include:
- Diagnosing and triaging faults, resolving issues quickly where possible and escalating specialist requirements
- Applying technical expertise to restore equipment to safe working condition and maintain trial activity
- Supporting Engineering Leads to maximise facility uptime and return services to operation efficiently
- Overseeing contractor work, maintenance shutdowns and inspections to ensure compliance and minimise downtime
- Leading calibration activities including in-house calibrations, PAT testing and coordination of external support
- Supporting equipment upgrades and lifecycle management, including commissioning, SAP implementation, spares strategy and engineering ownership of bespoke assets
Essential experience of the Mechanical and Electrical Technician:
- Experience of engineering and electrical fault fixing
- Qualified to carry out high voltage equipment testing (10KV)
- Previous experience working in Mechanical Engineering
- The ability to work within a team environment
- A full UK Drivers Licence
- Proficient with IT and basic software such as Word and Excel

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Shoeburyness site and is fully on-site. Shoeburyness QinetiQ Shoeburyness is a significant test and evaluation facility specialising in defence and security technologies. The site is focused on Environmental Testing including the evaluation of various ordnance, explosives and related systems. Implementing measures to ensure that testing activities comply with environmental regulations and minimise ecological impact.
