As Infrastructure & Systems Deputy Lead, you will support the delivery and evolution of a highly secure, network-driven platform responsible for processing and transmitting critical data within a Defence setting. Day-to-day, you’ll work closely with the Technical Lead to provide technical oversight across infrastructure, networking, and security, ensuring the platform remains secure, reliable, and performant in a live 24/7 environment. This role sits at the intersection of network engineering, cyber security, and systems integration, making it ideal for someone who enjoys working across disciplines and stepping into a broader technical leadership position.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading technical activities across network, infrastructure, and systems engineering teams
- Providing oversight to ensure secure and reliable data flow across networked systems
- Supporting the implementation of security controls, encryption, and secure data handling practices
- Driving improvements to system performance, resilience, and availability
- Producing and reviewing technical documentation and designs
- Engaging with stakeholders to resolve complex technical challenges
Essential experience
- Strong background in network engineering (routing, firewalls, secure connectivity)
- Experience working within secure or high-assurance IT environments
- Knowledge of cyber security principles and secure system design
- Experience supporting high availability or mission-critical systems
- Background in infrastructure or systems integration
- Ability to work across teams and contribute to technical leadership
Essential qualifications
- Exposure to encryption, cryptography, or secure data transfer principles
- Experience with scripting or automation (Python or PowerShell)
- Previous experience in Defence, government, or regulated environments
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain Developed Vetting (DV) clearance
- Professional certifications such as ITIL, Security+, Network+, or similar (or working towards)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
At our Farnborough site exciting work takes place at our state-of-the-art facility, with high-energy laser technologies, a 5m pressurised wind tunnel with simulation capability, and large research and development projects.
