The Role

As an Associate Scientist, you will support the development of advanced radar and signal processing technologies that directly enhance UK Defence capability. Day‑to‑day, you’ll contribute to research, modelling and simulation activities, applying scientific and analytical techniques to solve complex technical problems, develop algorithms, analyse real‑world data and support innovative solutions across radar and signal processing programmes.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Developing and optimising models and simulations for radar and signal processing applications
  • Applying scientific and mathematical methods to analyse data and interpret results
  • Designing and assessing algorithms and waveform concepts
  • Supporting research and development activities across multi‑disciplinary projects
  • Documenting technical findings and presenting results to a range of audiences

Essential experience for the Associate Scientist:

  • Strong scientific and analytical background in physics, mathematics or related disciplines
  • Experience applying modelling, simulation or data analysis techniques
  • Coding experience in MATLAB, Python, C++ or similar
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking capability
  • Clear communication skills for technical and non‑technical audiences

Essential qualifications for the Associate Scientist:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics, Maths or a related STEM subject or equivalent experience

This role is 37 hours per week based at Portsdown Technology Park in Portsmouth. Hybrid working patterns are available.
