The Role: As an Associate Systems Engineer, you’ll provide systems engineering and technical support to projects and work packages developing bespoke systems that underpin UK Defence Test, Trials, Training and Evaluation (T3E) activity.

Day-to-day, you’ll be part of a team who work on a diverse set of programmes and projects ranging from area/asset surveillance, video and voice communications, datalinks, secure data, trials control, safety systems and engineering. You will lead your own tasks, working under guidance of Senior Engineers and Project Managers where you’ll greatly benefit from ongoing support and mentoring.

With our support you will build expertise and knowledge in our bespoke test systems and technologies. You will be guided by the broader systems engineering team and you will actively participate in the professional community where our project work will direct your journey towards systems engineering professional registration and chartership.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Activities across the technical system V-cycle from system requirements, solution developments, installation plans, test and verification activities, system certifications and acceptances
  • Delivering own tasks and activity to time, cost and quality, working closely with Project Managers and seeking support of Senior Engineers
  • Working individually and as part of a team, you’ll integrate across communities acting as a technical point of contact for projects
  • Developing your knowledge of specific systems, solutions and technologies
  • Delivering systems engineering artefacts through project lifecycle, with support of senior colleagues as appropriate

Essential experience:

  • Aptitude for professional systems engineering skills across INCOSE Technical Competencies
  • Track record of delivering a project from beginning to end, with an eye on the engineering process
  • Appreciation of systems engineering activities in engineering project delivery
  • Using structured engineering processes (e.g. requirements gathering, integration and test planning)
  • Delivering technical project reports in timely and coherent manner
  • Experience of facilitating meetings or workshops and reporting technical outcomes

Essential qualifications:

  • Degree / Masters, or equivalent experience in a relevant technical discipline
  • Driving Licence

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Farnborough site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Travel to other QinetiQ and customer sites will be expected.

Farnborough: At our Farnborough site exciting work takes place at our state-of-the-art facility, with high-energy laser technologies, our 5m pressurised wind tunnel which has a simulation capability that is unique in the UK and our large research and development projects is a real hub of creativity, research and innovation.

Please note that all applicants for this role must be eligible for SC clearance, as a minimum.
