QinetiQ Training & Simulation Ltd (QTSL) specialises in the development of a wide variety of interesting, bespoke training and software solutions. Technologies including Artificial Intelligence, AR and VR technologies are used to deliver military training as well as ongoing development of the next generation of simulation systems.
The role is to support the delivery of the Maritime Command and Staff Trainer (MCAST) for the Royal Navy and specifically the management, maintenance and deployment of the MCAST Operational Communications Information System (MOpCIS) to support Maritime Battlestaff (MBS) training and assurance exercises at the Portsmouth Technology Park (PTP) and other sites. This utilises the latest synthetic environments and technologies to create a fully immersive and engaging exercise environment, with MOpCIS providing the user interface for the training audience.
We are looking for a CIS specialist to be instrumental in the delivery of this programme. Based at PTP, you will work as part of a delivery team consisting of technical and ex-military personnel. Reporting to the MCAST CIS Manager, you will be responsible for the day-to-day technical support of the MOpCIS and assist with ensuring the network infrastructure performs robustly and at optimal levels.
Tasks include:
- Responsible for configuring and maintaining the MOpCIS environment, along with hosted NATO applications used during exercises.
- Attend and support agreed project meetings, working groups and site reconnaissance.
- Work closely with the MCAST CIS Manager to ensure operational readiness and knowledge transfer.
- Ensure service stability.
- Monitor and maintain operational efficiency.
- Liaise with NATO application providers to ensure currency and implement upgrades.
- Plan and implement agreed MOpCIS maintenance, testing and acceptance activities as part of continual improvement, working closely with the Technical Delivery Manager to maximise availability.
- Assist RLS in audit, safety and security of MOpCIS hardware.
- Attend exercise delivery on-site at PTP and off-site at customer locations.
- During exercise delivery: Manage the deployed MOpCIS system.
- Update the MOpCIS system to meet immediate training needs.
- Work closely with the Training Audience to ensure MOpCIS meets their requirements towards achieving Training Objectives.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate will be a Naval veteran or Reservist with a strong understanding and proven experience in communications and information systems with a broad knowledge of network engineering support. The role will suit those who enjoy 'making things happen' and is very 'delivery' focused. You will be working closely with the exercise delivery and technical teams to deliver a seamless experience to the training audience. Whilst the role is based in Portsmouth with regular visits to QTSL HQ in Farnborough, and other sites in the UK, there may be occasional need for overseas travel.
Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have experience of OpCIS or OpNET systems within a military environment.
- Knowledge of NATO CIS and planning apps.
- Experience in Infrastructure Engineering.
- Familiar with monitoring tools such as Splunk or PRTG etc.
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to multi-task.
- The ability to communicate efficiently and diplomatically in a clear and concise manner.
