The Role

As a Senior Authorised Person, you will provide subject‑matter expertise and operational leadership across high‑hazard environments, ensuring safe systems of work (SSoW) are robust, compliant and consistently applied. You will play a critical role in maintaining operational safety, supporting delivery teams and shaping technical standards across UK Defence Operations.

Day to day, you’ll provide expert guidance on electrical safety and hazardous area operations, support authorised persons across sites, and lead continuous improvement of Safe Systems of Work to ensure safe, compliant and resilient operations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading and embedding Safe Systems of Work improvement programmes across UK Operations
  • Developing and maintaining standards to support QinetiQ’s Safe Systems of Work in line with JSP 375
  • Providing technical leadership and guidance to Site APs, facility managers and integrated delivery teams
  • Supporting audits and assisting sites to close out actions and observations
  • Managing and supporting succession planning, training and mentoring for current and prospective APs
  • Acting as a key interface with projects teams where SAP/AP input is required

Essential experience of the Senior Authorised Person:

  • Significant experience operating in a similar SAP or electrical safety leadership role
  • Strong working knowledge of JSP 375 and authorised / responsible person processes
  • Proven experience managing Safe Systems of Work in high‑hazard environments
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical advice and resolve complex operational issues
  • Experience supporting audits, inspections and compliance activities
  • Proven track record in health & safety leadership and compliance

Essential qualifications for the Senior Authorised Person:

  • Current Senior Authorised Person certification in HV/LV Electrical Systems
  • HNC / HND in an engineering or technical discipline or equivalent experience
  • Eligibility to hold UK security clearance

This role is 37 hours per week based at our MOD Boscombe site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week.
