The Role

As a Technical Author you will be responsible for the preparation of a range of technical documentation in support of QinetiQ Target Systems’ (QTS) product range. QTS is a wholly owned subsidiary of QinetiQ Group PLC, specialising in the design and manufacture of a range of state‑of‑the‑art Unmanned Aerial and Surface Target systems, including the world‑leading Banshee target.

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be involved with documentation delivery, within priorities set by the Technical Publications Manager that would include preparation of illustrated parts catalogues, maintenance manuals, operating manuals and training materials, covering both electrical and mechanical systems.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Preparation of presentation material, using the software provided
  • Generation of original graphics, including photographs and CAD images, for use in technical publications
  • General documentation support to departments and projects
  • Maintaining a good working knowledge of QTS products
  • Working within the guidelines of the department general procedures (GP)

Essential experience of the Technical Author:

  • Mechanical or Electronic Engineering background (can include Quality Assurance)
  • Technical publications ideally gained within an engineering environment
  • Understanding of CAD systems (SolidWorks) and the manipulation of CAD Models for presentation into documentation
  • Ideally have knowledge of CE marking regulations
  • Knowledge of FrameMaker, Adobe PDF Pro, and the Microsoft Office suite

Essential qualifications for the Technical Author:

  • Mechanical or Electronic Engineering qualification (NVQ minimum)

This role is 37 hours per week based at our Ashford (Kent) site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Flexible working is also available.
