The Role
As a Senior Mechanical/Structural Engineer, reporting to the Principal Engineer, you will design and analyze components and assemblies from concept to production, delivering technical projects for the structural design of submarine propulsors and complex multi‑material assemblies.
Your responsibilities:
- Act as a Senior Engineer, using subject matter expertise to solve problems and manage project schedules.
- Mentor others and develop expertise across engineering communities.
- Foster collaboration with wider technical teams and safety engineering to ensure compliance with statutory and project‑specific processes.
- Partner with external organisations to develop joint technical strategies supporting business development.
- Ensure projects are conducted safely, identifying hazards and unsafe practices.
- Apply governance consistently across technical programmes and review other projects where appropriate.
Essential experience:
- Strong knowledge of mechanical and structural engineering, including design processes and manufacturing principles.
- Thorough understanding of safety regulations and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Proficiency in CAD software, particularly Siemens NX or SolidWorks.
- Experience designing structures to recognised industry standards (Maritime, Defence, or Civil).
- Skilled in designing both metallic and composite structures.
- Competent in performing Finite Element Analysis (FEA) on complex structures and systems.
Essential qualifications:
- BEng in Mechanical Engineering or Naval Architecture, or equivalent demonstrable experience.
This role is 37 hours per week based at our Haslar site with a minimum average site attendance of three days per week. Our facilities at the Haslar Marine Technology Park are state‑of‑the‑art, including an ocean basin rotating arm and marine towing tank.
