The Role
As a Field Engineer you will be responsible for delivering high‑quality technical solutions within one or more technology domains working with minimal supervision and taking ownership of technical deliverables. Day‑to‑day, you’ll contribute to the design, implementation and support of systems and services, proactively solving problems and influencing engineering decisions across teams.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Independently design, implement and support enterprise‑grade solutions across one or more technology domains
- Provide guidance and informal mentoring to associate‑level engineers
- Perform troubleshooting and assist in resolving any technical issues
- Collaborate with senior engineers and team leaders to align work with strategic goals
- Work through tickets and solve problems independently
- Support field‑engineering activities across multiple sites, ensuring consistent and secure deployment
Essential experience of the Field Engineer:
- Previous experience in engineering or technical roles with the ability to work autonomously
- Prior experience supporting field‑engineering operations
- An understanding of infrastructure deployment and lifecycle management
- Experience in infrastructure rollouts including structured cabling, network hardware, audio‑visual systems and end‑user devices
- Ability to act as a technical contact for field teams and translate operational requirements into practical solutions
- Strong communication skills to engage with vendors, track service levels and handle escalation
- Awareness of health and safety standards in field environments, including safe working practices and basic risk assessments
- UK driver’s licence
Essential qualifications for the Field Engineer:
- A degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent experience
This role is 37 hours per week based at MOD Boscombe Down and is five days a week on site. Travelling to other locations will be required.
