This role broadly supports maintenance and operations activity within the 5m Wind Tunnel at Farnborough. This is a hands-on role including the opportunity to develop industrial plant multi-disciplinary engineering technician skills and knowledge whilst also attending college, via Level 3 Apprenticeship. You will be an active member of the team, with day-to-day tasks aligned to team needs and Apprenticeship learning. This is primarily a daytime role; you are unlikely to be invited to work shifts.
Key Accountabilities
- Attend and complete Apprenticeship learning with provider
- Apply Apprenticeship learning on the job, working with supervisor to plan appropriate tasks
- Self-motivated to work individually and as part of a team to meet required outcomes
- Deliver tasked work with supervision, until competent and assured in tasks, including Maintenance, inspection and testing
- Fault diagnosis activity
- Repair and replacement of parts
- Planning activities
- Closing out job activities
- Supporting operations and team activities
- Process capture and development
- Contribute to improvement activity, proposing solutions and better ways of working
- Work to site health, safety and work site compliance; support safety risk assessments
Key Capabilities and Knowledge
- Curiosity as to how plant and industrial equipment works
- Logical thinking and willingness to learn through absorbing, copying and doing
- Determination to persevere and solve engineering problems
- Ability to work from instructions/schematics to engineered outcomes
- Aptitude and ambition to learn detail of one or more of:
- Electrical circuits, transformers and power management
- Motors, compressors and fans
- Mechanical valves and pressure systems
- Hydraulics and moving parts
- Mechanical parts, tooling and equipment
- Control systems
- Design/process activity
- Controlling equipment reporting
- Basic maths and data collation
- Summarising work, communicating outcomes
Level 3 Maintenance and Engineering Operations. 3 x GCSEs at grade C/4 or higher including mathematics, English and science.
