The Role
As a Mechanical Design Engineer, your main role will be delivering Mechanical Design solutions and supporting the various capabilities throughout QinetiQ, including Advanced Weapon & EOD design, through life surveillance and novel concept design. Day-to-day, you will explore and test the problem space thoroughly, before generating your own hardware solutions and be prepared to lead the presentation of these ideas at design reviews and group critiques drawing on more senior member’s knowledge as required.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Lead on PDR's / CDRs' and able to explain the thinking behind concepts at Design Review/PDR/CDR with confidence; presenting at design critique sessions & chairing engineering reviews with Manufacturing & Procurement communities
- Submit Estimates directly to project & track the teams spend & holds the team to account for staying on track
- Uses knowledge of CAD features to integrate with analysis tools & can apply CAD software creatively - to solve novel problems
Essential experience of the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- Experience Designing Technical Hardware solutions – Ideally from a regulated industry requiring complex problem solving
- Significant experience creating technical Drawings from 3D Models, working with suppliers, manufacturers, customers, and subject matter experts
- Deep understanding of budgets, group behaviour, Patterns of behaviour & using this to deliver to time quality & cost
Essential qualifications for the Mechanical Design Engineer:
- HND/HNC/Degree in Aeronautical, Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Design Engineering
This role is 37 hours per week based at Fort Halstead. Expectation is to be onsite 2-3 days per week.
