Role Type: Early Careers – Graduate
Role Purpose: This role is to support the analysis, modelling and test of aerodynamic structures in support of our Aviation Engineering Centre, Wind Tunnel, Crewed and Uncrewed Air Platforms, and Science and Technology activity.
Background: You will be part of a team who work on a diverse set of programmes. You will work with the support of senior engineers and project manager to deliver your own tasks and work with a broad stakeholder group. As a graduate systems engineer, you will develop your CFD modelling skills as well as build general technical knowledge of the structures, technologies, engineering methods and platforms in use. You will learn the engineering project life‑cycle, and how to contribute effectively to contract engineering activity, e.g., proposing packages of work, estimating time, managing risks, presenting to peers, supporting gate reviews and delivering technical reports. You will have a sound aeronautic baseline, as well as aptitude and ambition to be an aerodynamics modelling and test subject matter expert.
Key Accountabilities:
- Support delivery of aerodynamic modelling and test activity across a range of projects.
- Support senior engineers in delivery of their work, learning from pairing / deliver tasked work.
- Configure and run CFD models using CATIA, collating output into coherent and succinct reports.
- Support continuous improvement and smooth running of High Power Computing capability across teams.
- Support design and technology research activity relating to air domain / aerostructures / capabilities.
- Support multi-disciplinary collaborative working, including x-industry, partner and academic communities.
- Support safety, security, regulatory and non‑functional requirements that apply to your project.
- Research and build knowledge of relevant technologies and system context.
- Adopt and promote use of digital and collaboration tools on projects, influencing broader community.
Key Capabilities/Knowledge:
- Awareness of the Royal Aeronautical Society, their activities and resources.
- Aware of QinetiQ’s role in supporting MODs aviation / air domain activities.
- Aptitude for modelling aerodynamic effects and curiosity to explore and solve problems across breadth of topics.
- Ability to produce concise documentation, collating information and with attention to detail.
- Logical, analytical and evidence‑based approach, with ability to listen, self‑learn and ask questions.
- Ability to clearly communicate across a broad stakeholder group.
