QinetiQ Training & Simulation Ltd (QTSL) specialises in the development of a wide variety of interesting, bespoke software solutions across a wide range of technology including Artificial Intelligence, AR and VR technologies and mathematical modelling, to support current MOD requirements as well as undertaking research for the next generation of simulation systems to support UK force development. Activities include software development, support to training, technology research and experimentation into how the Military can best use simulation/synthetic environments.
The role is to support the delivery of Maritime Battlestaff (MBS) training and assurance exercises in Portsmouth, other locations in the UK and overseas utilising the latest synthetic environments and technologies to create a fully immersive and engaging exercise environment. It also provides interface to MBS participation in Tier 3 exercises run by other organisations with the potential to stretch to join Tier 4 exercises.
We are looking for a Simulation Administrator to be instrumental in the delivery of the synthetic environment within this programme of work. You will provide regular progress reports to the project management and ensure project milestones are delivered in a timely manner. Reporting to the MCAST Technical Delivery Manager, you will be responsible for leading the configuration, setup, testing and deployment of the synthetic environment to support exercise delivery activities. Additionally, you will be responsible for the day-to-day management of technical tasks and resources and for the timely and safe completion of all simulation activities, within cost and to the relevant quality standards for the duration of the contract.
Responsibilities- Responsible for the creation of the synthetic environment in which the exercise will be conducted.
- Attend and support agreed project meetings and working groups (incl. IPC, MPC, FPC).
- Plan and deliver exercise scenarios and databases in the synthetic environment.
- Develop training materials to support LOCON training on use and exploitation of the CAX tools.
- Work closely with the IT Administrator to ensure a suitable IT infrastructure is designed and delivered.
- Liaise with simulation tools providers to discuss upgrades and continual improvement feedback.
- Plan and implement agreed maintenance, testing and acceptance activities as part of continual improvement, working closely with the IT Administrator to maximise availability.
- During exercise delivery, lead the delivery team that will:
- Train users on system.
- Manage the synthetic environment.
- Update synthetic environment scenario/databases to meet immediate training needs.
- Provide information and support to AAR activity.
- Experience across a range of synthetic environments including configuration, deployment, testing, user training.
- Understanding of terrain generation, tools and data sources.
- Hardware set-up and configuration.
- Understanding of network configuration and lay-down.
- Military knowledge and understanding.
- Task planning and prioritisation.
- Excellent organisation skills with the ability to multi-task.
- Adaptability and responsiveness, the ability to rapidly identify, solve problems and provide solutions.
- The ability to communicate efficiently and diplomatically in a clear and concise manner.
- Effective reporting up the chain of command.
- Expert user of the MS Office Suite.
The role will suit those who enjoy "making things happen" and are very "delivery" focused. You will be working closely with the exercise delivery and technical teams to deliver a seamless experience to the training audience. Whilst the role is based in Portsmouth with regular visits to QTSL HQ in Farnborough, and other sites in the UK, there will be occasional need for overseas travel.
