PURPOSE OF THE POST:
- Lead, manage and develop the History curriculum across all year groups.
- Accountable for the attainment and progress of all students and discrete groups of learners, including Eligible, EAL and SEND students.
- Monitor and support student progress within History.
- Promote the development of students' academic, moral, social, personal and cultural education.
- Contribute to the provision of an appropriately broad, balanced, relevant and differentiated curriculum.
- Play a full part in the life of the school community.
- Help to lead the department and school in fostering an attitude of positivity towards History.
MAIN DUTIES:
Teaching Duties:
- Undertake an appropriate programme of teaching.
- Engage actively in continuing professional development.
Pastoral Duties:
- Be a Form Tutor and carry out associated duties.
- Contribute to PSHE and Character Education.
- Ensure behaviour and rewards are implemented in the curriculum area.
Curriculum and Assessment:
- Assist with the development and delivery of the curriculum.
- Ensure continuity of student learning and progress.
- Develop and enhance appropriate assessments.
Staff Deployment, Development and Recruitment:
- Oversee the day-to-day management and deployment of staff.
- Act as a positive role model and promote teamwork.
- Manage the performance of staff and conduct appraisal reviews.
Student Progress Monitoring and Reporting:
- Monitor the progress made by all students.
- Coordinate colleagues in identifying underachieving students.
- Ensure reporting deadlines are met.
Quality Assurance:
- Establish departmental expectations relating to teaching, learning and assessment.
- Monitor the implementation of expectations and quality of teaching.
Communications and Marketing:
- Work with colleagues to formulate aims and objectives for the curriculum area.
- Ensure effective communication with all stakeholders.
Other Duties:
- Implement whole-school policies and procedures.
- Ensure Health and Safety policies are in line with statutory requirements.
