Senior Family Solicitor | HNW Divorce & Financial Remedy | North East Senior Associate level | Competitive salary benefits If your Family practice is increasingly centred around high-value divorce and financial remedy, this is an opportunity to work on the sort of cases that genuinely require senior-level experience.
An established Family team is looking to strengthen its Divorce & Finance offering with a senior solicitor who is comfortable dealing with substantial assets, complicated financial structures and clients whose circumstances rarely fit neatly into a standard financial remedy case.
The work includes high-net-worth divorce cases involving assets worth several million pounds, with matters potentially involving business interests, complex valuations, trusts, pensions and assets across more than one jurisdiction.
There is also a significant private children element to the wider practice, meaning the role can offer considerably more variety than a purely finance-focused position.
Depending on your experience, you could find yourself advising on: High-value financial remedy and divorce Complex business and shareholder interests Multi-jurisdictional assets and business valuations Trusts and pension arrangements Nuptial agreements International relocation and complex child arrangements Modern family issues, including surrogacy and adoption Cases involving serious allegations of domestic abuse Other complex private children disputes The expectation is that you’ll be able to run sophisticated cases with a high degree of autonomy — from the initial strategy and advice through to negotiation, proceedings and resolution.
You’ll have direct contact with clients throughout and will work alongside Counsel where appropriate on particularly complex or contentious matters.
It’s not just about the technical work.
At this level, the ability to deal with clients properly is critical.
These are often sensitive, high-value matters where clients need someone who can explain complicated legal and financial issues clearly, give sensible advice and remain calm when the circumstances become difficult.
There is also scope to contribute beyond your own caseload.
The team is looking for someone who can support and develop more junior lawyers, contribute to the continued development of the department and build relationships with professional referrers and existing clients.
You’ll ideally be: A qualified Family Solicitor, Barrister or equivalent Experienced in complex financial remedy work Comfortable handling HNW divorce and substantial asset cases Experienced across a broader private family caseload Confident dealing with businesses, trusts, pensions and complex financial structures A strong negotiator and communicator Comfortable working with a significant degree of autonomy Interested in developing junior lawyers and contributing to the wider team Commercially minded, with an interest in developing client and referrer relationships Experience of mediation or collaborative law would also be useful.
The attraction here is ultimately the quality and complexity of the work.
If you've reached senior level in Family and want to be dealing with substantial financial remedy cases, sophisticated clients and more unusual private family matters, rather than simply increasing your caseload, this is worth exploring.
There is also genuine scope to shape your role around your strengths and interests as the department continues to develop.
