Have you been leading Risk & Compliance within a smaller law firm and reached the point where you’re ready for greater scale, complexity and opportunity? We're working with a growing regional law firm of over 400 people that is looking to appoint an experienced Senior Risk & Compliance Manager. This could be an excellent move for someone currently operating as a Head of Risk & Compliance, COLP or senior generalist within a smaller firm who wants to join a larger, well-resourced function without losing the visibility, autonomy and influence they currently enjoy.

The role? You’ll work closely with the Head of Risk and two experienced Risk & Compliance Managers, acting as a trusted adviser to partners and senior stakeholders across the firm.

  • Advising on SRA regulatory and professional conduct matters
  • Managing complaints, claims and professional indemnity matters
  • Horizon-scanning and implementing regulatory change
  • Developing firmwide policies, procedures and guidance
  • Conducting compliance audits across practice groups
  • Coordinating Lexcel accreditation
  • Supporting the firm’s PII renewal
  • Delivering risk and compliance training
  • Supervising and developing a Risk & Compliance Assistant
  • Supporting due diligence on potential mergers and acquisitions
  • Contributing to senior management reporting and strategic projects

This is a broad, influential position, not a role focused solely on AML, conflicts or file reviews.

About you?

  • Broad experience in law firm risk and compliance function
  • Detailed knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations, Accounts Rules and Code of Conduct
  • Experience handling complaints, claims and professional indemnity matters
  • Confidence advising partners and senior stakeholders on complex regulatory issues
  • Experience developing policies, procedures and firmwide guidance
  • Strong investigative, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • The ability to influence, challenge and build trusted relationships across a firm
  • A collaborative approach, with the confidence to work autonomously and supervise junior colleagues

You’ll need strong experience in a law firm Risk & Compliance function, alongside detailed knowledge of the SRA Standards and Regulations, Accounts Rules, professional indemnity insurance and the Legal Ombudsman framework.

What’s in it for you?

  • A highly visible role within a growing firm
  • Direct exposure to senior leadership and strategic decision-making
  • A collaborative and established Risk & Compliance team
  • The opportunity to influence policies, processes and firmwide culture
  • Genuine scope to work across complex regulatory and commercial matters
  • Hybrid working and a strong emphasis on work-life balance
  • Private healthcare and enhanced family leave
  • 25 days’ holiday, your birthday off and the option to buy more
  • Life assurance, pension and interest-free season ticket loans
