This is a progressive, multi-office law firm with a strong regional reputation for quality work and excellent client care. The firm is known for promoting from within and backing its people when they are ready to step up. Rather than expecting candidates to arrive with a fully formed department-head CV, the leadership team focuses on potential, attitude and ambition. Collaboration across offices is actively encouraged, and flexible and hybrid working are embedded into the culture, making this a genuinely modern environment for senior lawyers looking to progress.
Stepping into a Head of Department position with the support of senior leadership, you will take responsibility for the development and direction of the Family team across Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire. You will manage a varied caseload including divorce, financial remedy and private children matters, gradually building leadership responsibility, including mentoring junior lawyers and shaping workflows. You will contribute ideas to grow the department, improve processes and strengthen client relationships, being given the space to grow into the role rather than being expected to have done it all before.
You should be a Senior Associate or experienced family lawyer ready to move into departmental leadership, with strong technical ability and confidence running your own matters independently. You should be interested in mentoring others and having a say in how a team develops, commercially aware, but client-focused and pragmatic in your approach. You should be motivated by progression, autonomy and long-term career development, wanting your ambition recognised rather than being told to “wait a bit longer”.
Benefits include:
- Competitive salary with progression as the role evolves
- Hybrid and flexible working arrangements
- Clear pathway into long-term departmental leadership
- Support from an established senior management team
- Generous holiday entitlement
- Pension scheme with salary exchange options
- Life assurance and income protection
- Employee Assistance Programme and wellbeing support
- Staff discounts on legal and related professional services
- A culture that genuinely invests in future leaders
