Transactional Construction Solicitor - 2+ PQE in Newcastle upon Tyne

There are plenty of construction roles where the work looks good on paper.

The harder thing to find is a firm where the work is strong and the environment is genuinely supportive, both professionally and personally.

That matters here.

I know this firm well enough to say that this is not one of those places where people are simply left to get on with it and judged on output. They are looking to add a construction solicitor with at least 2 years’ PQE to a busy Construction, Engineering and Projects team.

The work is broad and high quality. You would be acting for a mix of developers, contractors, consultants, sub-contractors, investors and funders on projects across the North East, the wider UK and overseas.

The core of the role is non-contentious construction, so experience with JCT and NEC contracts, professional appointments and collateral warranties would be useful. That said, they are not looking at people through an unnecessarily narrow lens. If your background is a blend of contentious and non-contentious work, that could absolutely be of interest.

What I like most about this role, though, is the wider career piece.

This is a team that wants somebody to develop, not simply fill a seat.

If you want to become more confident with clients, build your own profile, get more involved in business development and gradually create a practice that feels like yours, there is room to do that.

And importantly, you would be doing it in an environment I have good reason to believe is genuinely supportive on a human level too.

That can get lost in legal recruitment. We talk endlessly about rankings, clients, deals and progression, but most people also want to know what it will actually feel like to work somewhere every day.

• Will you be able to ask questions without feeling judged?
• Will there be room for you to have a life as well as a career?

Those are perfectly reasonable questions, and this is a firm I would feel comfortable discussing in those terms.

So if you are a construction lawyer who enjoys the technical side of the work but also wants to feel more connected to the team around you, more supported in your development and more in control of where your career is heading, I think this is worth a conversation.
