An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Legal Secretary to join a busy and well-established Family Department based in Blackburn.

Key Responsibilities

  • Audio typing and preparation of legal correspondence and documents
  • Diary management, arranging appointments and meetings
  • Opening, closing, storing and retrieving client files
  • Preparing mail and legal documentation for dispatch
  • Supporting fee earners to ensure efficient day-to-day operations
  • Attending to clients both in person and over the telephone in a professional manner
  • Assisting other secretaries and supporting junior staff where required
  • Maintaining confidentiality of all client and firm information

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a similar legal secretarial role within a Family Law department
  • Experience of both privately funded and publicly funded children matters
  • Knowledge of Legal Aid funding and online applications
  • Audio typing speed of 60wpm using digital dictation systems
  • Experience using case management systems
  • Excellent communication and telephone manner
  • Strong organisational skills and ability to manage urgent tasks effectively
  • Team player with a personable and professional approach

Desirable Skills

  • RSA Level 2
  • Audio typing speed of 90wpm
  • Good knowledge of legal procedures within a busy legal environment
  • Strong IT skills including MS Office Suite and case management systems
