We are seeking a highly organised and detail‑oriented In-House Costing Draftsperson to join a busy and supportive Family Law team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong administrative experience who is looking to build a career within the legal sector, particularly in legal costs and Legal Aid billing.
The Role
You will play a key role in supporting the Costing team with Legal Aid billing processes and ensuring the smooth running of the department. This position involves a combination of legal costing work and administrative support, helping the team meet deadlines and maintain high standards of compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Preparing and submitting Legal Aid claims, including payments on account and final bills
- Assisting with the preparation of bills for assessment and payment
- Liaising with internal teams regarding costs‑related queries
- Reviewing and checking bills from external costs draftspeople
- Supporting the preparation of files for detailed assessment
- Managing general administrative tasks including filing, data entry, archiving, and document preparation
- Handling telephone enquiries and directing messages appropriately
- Supporting business development and marketing activities where required
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure work is completed efficiently
- Support fee earners and team members with costing and billing matters
- Assist in maintaining high standards of service and compliance
About You
- Minimum of 5 GCSEs (including English and Maths)
- Previous experience in administrative duties (filing, scanning, data entry, etc.)
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload effectively
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Confident communicator with the ability to build positive working relationships
- Proactive, flexible, and open to learning new ways of working
- A team player with a positive and supportive attitude
