An excellent opportunity has arisen for an experienced Costs Draftsman to join a well‑established and growing legal practice specialising in publicly funded work. We are seeking a proactive and detail‑oriented professional with strong experience in drafting publicly funded bills and managing Legal Aid Agency submissions from start to finish. This role offers the opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative team environment with excellent training and career development opportunities.

The successful candidate will be responsible for handling all aspects of final billing for publicly funded proceedings, including:

  • Preparation and submission of final claims for publicly funded matters
  • Completion of Outcome submissions to the Legal Aid Agency
  • Uploading supporting documentation and managing claim submissions
  • Reviewing Assessment Notifications and preparing Appeals where appropriate
  • Drafting electronic bills
  • Providing technical costs guidance to fee earners
  • Supporting and assisting junior team members with post‑assessment work
  • Maintaining accurate time costing procedures
  • Ensuring compliance with file management and internal processes
  • Supporting ongoing costs management and internal training initiatives

Experience using Costsmaster software would be highly advantageous.

Minimum 2 years’ experience drafting publicly funded bills

Previous experience within a litigation or legal costs environment

Strong knowledge of LAA Costs Assessment Guidance

Experience managing your own caseload independently

Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills

Strong IT skills including legal case management systems and Microsoft 365

A proactive and professional approach to work

Excellent communication and client care skills

The ability to work both independently and as part of a team

Supervisory experience would be beneficial but is not essential.
