Conveyancing Assistant – Residential & New Build Property York | Full Time | Hybrid Considered Competitive Salary DOE + Benefits £25,000 - £29,000

Ever felt like conveyancing has become more about pushing files through a system than actually seeing a transaction properly through to completion? Or wondered what it would be like to be part of a team where you’re genuinely involved in the process, not just handling one small part of it?

We’re working with a well-established regional law firm in York who are looking to recruit an experienced Conveyancing Assistant to join their Residential and New Build Property teams. This opportunity has come about due to continued growth within the property division over the last few years — and that growth is not slowing down.

As the workload continues to increase, the team is expanding to ensure service levels remain high, and it’s also creating genuine long-term progression opportunities for those coming into the business now. This is a busy, hands-on role where you’ll be right in the middle of live transactions, supporting fee earners and making sure matters progress smoothly from instruction through to completion.

You’ll be involved across the full lifecycle of a file, so attention to detail and the ability to keep things moving is essential. Day to day, you’ll be opening new files, preparing documentation, assisting with contract packs and searches, progressing enquiries, and supporting exchanges and completions. You’ll also be speaking regularly with clients, agents and lenders, so confidence on the phone and a professional, calm approach in a busy environment is key.

This is not a “light touch” support role — it’s for someone who already understands conveyancing processes and wants to be fully embedded in a fast-moving property team.

Role Requirements:
  • At least 12 months’ experience in residential conveyancing (sales and purchase essential)
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy under pressure
  • Confidence communicating with clients, agents and lenders
  • Ability to manage competing deadlines in a busy caseload environment
  • A proactive, reliable and team-focused approach

Beyond the day-to-day work, you’ll be joining a stable and well-organised property team where people are supported properly and workloads are managed sensibly. It’s busy, but structured — and designed so you can actually do the job well rather than constantly firefight.

The firm itself has gone through a sustained period of growth over recent years, particularly within the property space, and that trajectory is expected to continue. Importantly, that growth hasn’t just been about workload — it’s been shared across the teams, with people benefiting from increased opportunity, stability, and progression as the business expands.

You’ll be part of a friendly, down-to-earth team, with good support around you and the opportunity to develop further within residential and new build conveyancing if that’s the direction you want to go in. It’s the kind of environment where people tend to stay, because the balance between support and responsibility is right.

If you’d like to find out more about the firm, the team structure, and what the role looks like in practice, please contact Eoghan at QED Legal Recruitment Ltd for a confidential discussion.
