Family Solicitor | HNW & Complex Family Work | Sunderland
Sunderland | NQ–Experienced | £40,000–£55,000+ DOE | Full-Time & Part-Time Options
Not every Family role gives you the chance to work on quality private work without the pressure of Legal Aid or a high-volume caseload.
This one does.
I'm working with an established North East law firm that is looking to add another Family Solicitor to its growing team in Sunderland.
The team is already expanding, with further lawyers joining, but the priority is finding another solicitor who can come in, take ownership of a meaningful caseload and help the department continue to grow without putting unnecessary pressure on the existing team.
The work is predominantly high-quality private Family work, with a client base that includes HNW individuals, business owners, professionals, landlords and other clients with more substantial financial circumstances.
That means the matters can be technically interesting.
You're likely to deal with clients where there are significant pensions, investments, property portfolios, businesses and other assets to consider. This isn't a Legal Aid environment and it isn't a role where you're expected to churn through a huge number of low-value matters.
The team typically handles around 30–35 Family files per fee earner, with an emphasis on quality rather than sheer volume.
You'll have an assistant supporting you, alongside an experienced team around you, and there is a genuine commitment to training and development.
They're relatively flexible on PQE. An NQ with the right training and capability could be considered, while someone with several years' experience who can confidently manage their own caseload would also be of interest.
What matters most is what you can actually do.
They're looking for someone who can:
- Manage a good volume of private Family matters effectively
- Take responsibility for their own caseload
- Deal confidently with clients and sensitive issues
- Produce quality work and demonstrate strong billing performance
- Understand the financial and commercial aspects of Family work
- Work independently while contributing to a close-knit team
The firm is also unusually open when it comes to working patterns.
Full-time and part-time candidates can be considered, including arrangements such as three full days or five shorter days, with flexibility around childcare and other commitments where possible.
The longer-term objective is to build the Family team together in Sunderland, creating a more cohesive department while continuing to invest in people coming through traditional training contracts, apprenticeships and the SQE route.
If you're a Family Solicitor in Sunderland, Washington, South Tyneside, County Durham or the wider North East and want a private Family role with quality work, sensible caseloads and genuine flexibility, this is worth a conversation.
