Legal Compliance Assistant – AML & Business Support
Stoke-on-Trent
Up to £35,000
Office based
Already working in legal compliance and looking to broaden your experience?
Or perhaps you’re in a legal support role, handling client onboarding and AML checks, and want to move further into compliance?
I’m working with a law firm looking for a Compliance & Business Support Officer to support its risk, compliance and practice support function.
You’ll be involved throughout the life of a legal file, from the initial client due diligence through to file reviews, closure and archiving.
The Role?
Working with the Compliance Manager/COLP and fee earners, your responsibilities will include
• Client onboarding, CDD and KYC checks, including electronic identity verification.
• AML risk assessments and source of funds and wealth checks.
• Liaising with clients and fee earners to obtain outstanding information.
• Reviewing files, identifying gaps and supporting internal compliance audits.
• Helping prepare for regulatory inspections and accreditation renewals.
• Managing file closures, record retention and secure archiving in line with GDPR.
• Maintaining compliance registers and helping improve processes across the firm.
There’s plenty of variety here, with exposure to both AML compliance and the wider regulatory and operational side of running a law firm.
About you?
At least 1–2 years’ experience within a law firm or legal services environment.
Practical experience of client due diligence, AML and source of funds checks.
Comfortable using legal case management systems and confident speaking with clients and colleagues.
Organised, detail-focused and someone who notices when something doesn’t quite add up.
Knowledge of SRA requirements and experience of file audits would be useful, but previous auditing experience isn’t essential.
You might already be a Compliance Assistant, Compliance Administrator or junior Compliance Analyst, or a Legal Assistant or Paralegal with relevant onboarding and file management experience.
What's in it for you?
- The opportunity to progress as the team grows, taking on more responsibility and developing your experience across AML, file audits and wider regulatory compliance.
- 25 days’ holiday plus bank holidays, with the option to purchase additional leave.
- Matched pension contributions.
- Access to a private GP and healthcare scheme for you and your family.
- Life cover at four times your salary.
- Free parking.
- Professional development support to help build your legal compliance knowledge.
