The role
- Join at partner level and take a leading role in developing and growing the private client practice in Bourne.
- Work with a varied client base including individuals, families, business owners, agricultural clients and high-net-worth individuals.
- Advise across a broad range of private client matters, including wills, powers of attorney, estate administration, trusts, tax planning and court of protection work.
- Handle matters ranging from straightforward wills through to complex estate planning involving trusts, inheritance tax and capital gains tax considerations.
- Manage both taxable and non-taxable estates, including complex and high-value estates.
- Develop long-term relationships with clients and become a trusted adviser to families across generations.
- Work collaboratively with specialist teams across the wider firm, including tax, trusts, wealth management, agriculture, property and corporate.
- Lead, supervise, mentor and develop junior members of the private client team.
- Take a high degree of autonomy over your caseload, client relationships and business development activity.
- Develop existing client relationships, professional networks and referral opportunities.
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities and contribute to the strategic growth of the local private client practice.
- Support the firm's wider business development strategy through networking, seminars, events and relationship building.
- Contribute to the development of the Bourne practice, with the opportunity to influence how the private client offering evolves.
- Maintain strong financial management, including billing, cash flow and collection of monies on account.
- Maintain excellent technical knowledge and keep up to date with developments in private client law and practice.

- Experienced across wills, powers of attorney, mental capacity matters, estate administration, tax planning and trusts.
- Confident advising on more complex estate planning and high-value estates.
- Commercially minded, with an appetite for business development and growing client relationships.
- Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership of your own caseload and client relationships.
- Experienced in leading, supervising or mentoring junior colleagues.
- A natural relationship builder who enjoys developing long-term connections with clients and professional referrers.
- Able to identify opportunities to work collaboratively with other areas of the firm for the benefit of clients.
- Ideally step qualified, or willing to work towards the qualification.
- Experience advising agricultural clients, farming families and/or business owners would be advantageous.
- Experience with succession planning, business succession and family wealth planning would be desirable.
- Experience working with high-net-worth clients would be advantageous.
- An established following or professional network would be welcomed, although it is not essential.
