Job overview

Provide 12 hour shift cover on a fixed rota (24/7).
Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance (PPM) and breakdown maintenance to all aspectsof electrical plant, distribution and equipment including work of a technical and/or non-routine nature. Perform dutiescovering the testing and fault finding on a wide range of electrical engineering plant and equipment, including but notrestricted to; electrical distribution, lighting, fire detection, building control & automation, standby generators, laundryequipment, nurse call systems, data communications, steam raising plant and associated equipment, kitchen equipmentand theatre ventilation services.
In addition to maintenance & emergency repairs the post holder will be required to carry out minor installation & improvements works across all of QE Facilities’ contracted sites. All work must be carried out in compliance withorganisational & customer safety standards and national legislation.
Occasionally engaged in heavy repairs and manipulation of equipment in restricted spaces.
Main duties of the job

To respond to requests for repairs, faults and emergencies involving all aspects of electrical, mechanical & building services – The post holder will be required to assess the situation in the event of such requests or emergency situations and as a first measure, act to ensure safety of public/patients/other staff then to either affect repairs or summon assistance as required.
QE Facilities operates a multi skilled policy and the post holder is required to demonstrate a high degree of cross tradeflexibility beyond the boundaries of their core skills including Mechanical and Building Maintenance works supportedwith in-house training. The post holder will be expected to carry out minor mechanical/building work, in connectionwith their main duties at the discretion of the supervising officer, which, under extreme conditions shall include grittingand snow clearing.

We provide a range of non- clinical services to GHNT and other NHS organisations. Our services include: estates, facilities services, procurement, medical engineering and devices, endoscopy decontamination and sterile services, transport, out-patient pharmacy, and prevention & management of violence & aggression training (PMVA).
In addition we provide consultancy services, advising clients on all aspects of establishing a subsidiary company within an NHS body to the provision of VAT compliance advice.

Knowledge
- Must be able to work and act on his/her own initiative with no supervision
- Possess the ability to work and communicate effectively in a pleasant manner with all other staff across QE Facilities contracted sites
- Must be able to communicate positively with customers, patients and staff from other departments & organisation
- Must be adaptable and flexible in all areas of work
- Be fully aware of Health & Safety responsibilities relating to their work and possess sufficient technical knowledge to avoid any danger to themselves, colleagues or users of any QEF contracted site
- Be able to provide and receive routine and technical information from colleagues and non- technical staff to enable safe use of complex hospital equipment

Qualifications
- City & Guilds craft Certificates electrical or NVQ Level 3 in engineering maintenance
- Electrical and/or Mechanical BTec ONC or relevant experience
- Current UK driving licence
- 18th edition IEE regulations
- HNC/HND
- 2391 or 2394 & 2395 inspection & testing
Experience
- Must have completed a suitable Mechanical or Electrical Apprenticeship
- Good customer services and customer interaction
- Maintenance experience in hospitals or a similar environment
