Maintenance Assistant in Gateshead

Overview

Assist/Support craft persons in carrying out planned preventative and breakdown maintenance of plant, equipment and associated services situated in all areas and departments as directed by supervisor/manager. The role involves performing semi-skilled work without supervision and undertaking labouring and cleaning duties as required, with occasional overtime to sustain operational activities.

Responsibilities

• Assist with/undertake the maintenance of plant, equipment and associated services at the request of engineering officers and/or maintenance supervisor.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspection and testing in accordance with procedures and manufacturers specifications (e.g., fire alarms, water systems, ventilation, drainage) and complete associated paperwork/reports. Training will be provided to ensure compliance requirements.
• Carry out minor reactive maintenance tasks and actively participate in the operation of the QE Facilities helpdesk, including timely completion of work dockets via a PDA (handheld computer).
• Carry out text/mobile communications tasks to enable the post holder to be contacted by a supervisor.
• Be occasionally required to work overtime, possibly with minimal notice, to carry out works in places not available during normal hours to ensure operational activities are maintained and to participate in relevant training.
• Report to supervisor any faults or misuse of equipment.
