We have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Pharmacist to join QE Facilities Pharmacy Services, providing leadership across our Outpatient Pharmacy and supporting wider services including Homecare and Smoking Cessation. This role is ideally suited to a pharmacist looking to step into a senior operational leadership position, with the opportunity to develop their experience in governance, service improvement and multi-service delivery. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Pharmacy / Superintendent Pharmacist, providing day-to-day leadership of the pharmacy team and operational service delivery, while being supported to develop in broader governance and quality functions.

Main duties of the job

  • Acting as Responsible Pharmacist, ensuring safe, legal and effective service delivery and prioritising workflow
  • Leading the day-to-day operation of Pharmacy Services and contact point for operational incidents and issues
  • Coordinating pharmacist staffing (rota planning, leave, workload allocation)
  • Maintaining systems for PMRs, stock control and service delivery
  • Day-to-day leadership and supervision of Pharmacists and Pharmacy Managers
  • Lead and support the pharmacist team in delivering a high-quality, patient-focused service
  • Support induction, training and development of Pharmacists
  • Contribute to performance management, appraisals and development
  • Foster positive inclusive and learning-focused team culture

Supportive responsibilities (with Superintendent Pharmacist support)

  • Support governance and regulatory compliance
  • Contribute to audits, SOP development and quality systems (Q-Pulse)
  • Support investigation of incidents and complaints (reviewing cases, supporting root cause analysis, ensuring corrective actions are implemented and followed through)
  • Contribute to risk management and service improvement activity
  • Support delivery of KPIs and performance standards

Job responsibilities

This is a senior operational role with a clear balance of accountability and support:

  • You will lead and be accountable for the day-to-day running of services
  • You will contribute to governance, quality and regulatory work, with full support
  • The Superintendent Pharmacist retains overall accountability for regulatory and strategic functions
  • This role carries operational accountability for the safe and effective delivery of pharmacy services, including acting as Responsible Pharmacist.
  • Strategic, regulatory and business-level accountability remains with the Superintendent Pharmacist, with whom the post holder works closely and is fully supported.

We are looking for a pharmacist who:

  • Is GPhC registered with experience as a Responsible Pharmacist
  • Has strong clinical and operational pharmacy experience
  • Is ready to step into or further develop in a leadership role
  • Has the confidence to lead teams and manage day-to-day service challenges
  • Is motivated to develop in governance, quality and service improvement
  • Demonstrates excellent communication, organisation and decision-making skills

Person Specification

Qualifications

  • GPhC registered Pharmacist
  • MPharm (Hons) or equivalent

Experience

  • Responsible Pharmacist experience in Hospital Pharmacy or Community Pharmacy
  • Expertise in area of practice

Knowledge and Skills

  • Knowledge of the Laws, Guidelines and Standards relating to the supply of medicines from a GPhC registered Pharmacy
  • Excellent communication skills. Ability to explain clearly and listen to members of the public and other healthcare professionals
