Acting for developers, contractors and subcontractors, the team handles contentious matters arising throughout the lifecycle of construction projects, alongside the firm’s wider commercial litigation capabilities.

The Opportunity

  • Advise developers, contractors and subcontractors on contentious construction and engineering matters.
  • Pursue and defend claims involving payment, delay, defects, workmanship and quality issues.
  • Handle disputes concerning the interpretation and operation of construction contracts.
  • Act in adjudications, including preparing referrals and responses and dealing with enforcement proceedings.
  • Work on complex and multi-party construction disputes.
  • Advise clients on dispute-management strategies during live and completed projects.
  • Resolve matters through negotiation, mediation and other appropriate forms of alternative dispute resolution.
  • Handle construction disputes progressing through court proceedings, including matters before the Technology and Construction Court.
  • Analyse detailed contractual, factual and technical evidence arising from construction and engineering projects.
  • Develop further experience alongside lawyers specialising in construction disputes and wider commercial litigation.
  • The Ideal Candidate
  • A qualified solicitor with 2-4 years’ PQE.
  • Relevant experience in contentious construction and engineering law.
  • Experience of adjudication and construction litigation.
  • A good working knowledge of construction contracts and the contractual issues that commonly arise on projects.
  • Experience handling disputes involving payment, delay, defects or other construction-related claims.
  • Able to analyse detailed contractual and technical material and provide clear, commercially focused advice.
  • Confident drafting contentious correspondence and dispute-related documentation.
  • Comfortable working to the demanding timescales associated with construction adjudication.
  • Keen to continue developing specialist expertise in contentious construction law.
