About the Firm

Few areas of law are being reshaped as quickly as intellectual property. New technologies, changing business models and increasingly valuable intangible assets are creating disputes that test both established rights and the boundaries of existing law.

Our client is an international law firm with a recognised IP offering and a track record in major contentious matters. Its lawyers protect and enforce rights across trademarks, copyright, designs, patents, database rights, confidential information and trade secrets, with particular expertise in disputes arising where intellectual property intersects with emerging technology.

The firm is seeking an accomplished IP Litigation Partner who can add further weight to this capability while bringing their own expertise, relationships and perspective to the team.

The Opportunity

  • Represent UK and international businesses in significant intellectual property disputes.
  • Pursue and defend infringement proceedings involving trademarks, copyright, designs, patents and database rights.
  • Handle confidential information and trade secret cases where commercially sensitive assets are at stake.
  • Advise on brand protection, enforcement strategies, passing off and contentious trade mark matters.
  • Take cases through the High Court, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court and appellate courts, where appropriate.
  • Tackle disputes involving emerging technologies and novel questions around the protection and use of intellectual property.
  • Coordinate multi-jurisdictional litigation and enforcement strategies with lawyers across the firm's European network.
  • Create new instructions from existing connections while identifying further work across technology, media, retail, consumer and other IP-rich sectors.

The Ideal Candidate

  • An experienced Partner specialising in contentious intellectual property.
  • Deep knowledge of IP enforcement and litigation, with expertise across one or more core areas such as trademarks, copyright, designs, patents or trade secrets.
  • A credible market reputation and an established network capable of generating instructions.
  • Experience conducting substantial proceedings before the UK courts and relevant intellectual property tribunals.
  • An ability to turn technically complex IP issues into clear, commercially focused strategies.
  • Comfortable advising businesses whose intellectual property is fundamental to their products, brands, technology or competitive position.
  • An interest in the evolving relationship between intellectual property, technology and innovation.
  • The credentials to enhance an already recognised contentious IP offering.

What’s on Offer

  • A financial proposition designed to recognise the value of your expertise, relationships and market standing.
  • Entry into an IP group with an established reputation for sophisticated infringement and enforcement work.
  • Exposure to disputes at the forefront of developments in technology and intellectual property law.
  • The chance to act across a rich mix of rights, from brands and creative content through to patents, designs, data and confidential information.
  • Access to technology, media, retail, consumer and other IP-intensive sectors where the firm already has considerable experience.
  • European reach for clients facing infringement, enforcement and protection issues across multiple jurisdictions.
  • The scope to bring your own specialism to the table and help shape the next chapter of the firm's contentious IP offering.
