Global Head of Alternative Risk Transfer - Reinsurance

The opportunity:
We are seeking a commercially astute Global Head of Alternative Risk Transfer (ART) to lead the buildout of QBE Re's ART portfolio. This senior leadership role is responsible for driving innovation in non-traditional risk solutions, working with a high-performing underwriting team, and delivering profitable growth through bespoke, capital-efficient structures. The ideal candidate will bring deep technical expertise, strong market relationships, and a strategic mindset to shape the future of ART within QBE Re.
Your New Role:
Underwriting & Structuring:
- Assess and underwrite non-traditional risk transfer solutions including structured reinsurance and multi-line/multi-year programs.
- Develop customised solutions for complex client needs, leveraging financial engineering and alternative capital where appropriate
- Collaborate with actuarial, legal, finance, claims and risk teams to structure deals that meet both client and internal risk appetite.
- Act as an advisory point for insurance colleagues interested in market and structuring dynamics
- Act as a senior point of contact for strategic ART opportunities
- Cultivate and expand relationships with key clients, brokers and alternative capital providers.
- Work closely with brokers, cedents, and corporate clients to understand their risk profiles and capital management objectives.
- Present and explain ART solutions to clients and internal stakeholders.
- Own the performance and composition of the global ART portfolio, ensuring alignment with underwriting strategy, capital efficiency, and risk-adjusted return targets.
- Oversee portfolio segmentation, diversification, and aggregation analysis across geographies, lines of business, and risk types.
- Collaborate with actuarial and risk teams to assess capital consumption, volatility, and tail risk exposure using advanced modelling techniques.
- Drive continuous portfolio optimisation and active cycle management
- Monitor and manage the performance of ART deals, ensuring alignment with underwriting strategy and risk appetite.
- Maintain accurate documentation and reporting for internal governance and regulatory compliance.
- Ensure compliance with all legal, regulatory and Learning & Development requirements to ensure obligations are met.
- Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimize risk and maximise efficiency.

- Extensive experience in ART or structured reinsurance, including a proven track record in senior leadership roles.
- Proven track record of underwriting and managing complex, non-traditional risk portfolios.
- Deep understanding of insurance economics, capital modelling, and regulatory frameworks (e.g., Solvency II, IFRS 17, Bermuda regulations).
- Strong leadership, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
