Role Overview: Underwriter – Property & Package based in Manchester, hybrid working.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite insurance risks in line with the Business Plan and with personal authority to meet business objectives.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with stakeholders – customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues – to maximise influence.
  • Shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
  • Promote the department, division and company brand.
  • Comply with all legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Adhere to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
  • Keep abreast of market dynamics and demonstrate market‑cycle awareness to operate effectively and appropriately.
  • Continuously keep the right to work in the UK – sponsorship may be considered at QBE’s discretion.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experience within the Property, Package or Property & Casualty underwriting space.
  • Commercial ability to understand key profit drivers and maximise long‑term wealth for shareholders.
  • Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental tools.
  • Good knowledge of legal and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong negotiating skills and an innovative underwriting approach.
