Chelmsford based role with hybrid working. Lead and develop a high‑performing, inclusive Claims team, using data, insight and collaboration to deliver exceptional service, strong commercial outcomes and continuous improvement.
As an Assistant Claims Manager, you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the performance, culture and future of our AP Claims team. Leading a diverse group of Claims professionals across the UK and international locations, you’ll bring our Claims strategy to life - balancing commercial outcomes with exceptional customer service and people‑centred leadership. Your new role:
- Bring the Claims strategy to life by leading day‑to‑day performance across the AP Claims team, ensuring service excellence and strong commercial outcomes.
- Manage and coach a team of Claims professionals (6–9 direct reports), including colleagues based across the UK and international locations, creating an inclusive and high‑performing environment.
- Monitor claims performance, trends and repairer outcomes, using data and insight to identify risks, opportunities and areas for improvement.
- Work closely with Underwriters and key stakeholders to deliver claims services in line with contractual commitments and customer expectations.
- Champion quality, compliance and best‑practice claims handling, ensuring regulatory standards and QBE’s Claims Handling Philosophy are embedded.
- Use MI, reporting and storytelling to support decision‑making, improve outcomes and influence change.
- Identify and address performance or capability gaps, supporting individuals through coaching, feedback and development planning.
- Embrace technology, data and emerging tools (including AI) to continuously improve efficiency, insight and customer experience.
- Build strong relationships with internal teams, suppliers and partners to support cost control, quality and customer retention.
- Lead with flexibility and trust, supporting hybrid working (typically two days a week in the office) while keeping teams connected and engaged.
Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
About You:
- Proven experience in Claims, with exposure to managing people, performance and service delivery in a fast‑paced environment.
- Experience working in automotive protection would be preferred, but is not essential.
- Previous people‑management experience, with the ability to motivate, coach and develop teams, including those working remotely or across locations.
- Comfortable using data, MI and reports to understand performance, tell a clear story and drive improvement.
- Experience working collaboratively with stakeholders such as Underwriters, suppliers or operational partners.
- Open to change and innovation, with a positive mindset towards new tools, technology and smarter ways of working.
