The predicted salary is between 36000 - 60000 £ per year.
The purpose of this role is to underwrite business in accordance with the business plan within set underwriting guidelines, service standards and within individual earned or delegated underwriting authority. This role involves underwriting complex new businesses and offering specialist advice. Additionally, the role is responsible for building and maintaining broker relationships, applying technical expertise, contributing to business results, staying informed about industry standards and new product introductions, and coaching and mentoring Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters.
This is an exciting opportunity to truly develop the portfolio and build out new business opportunities. We are currently hiring for a Construction Underwriter to join our well-established underwriting team based in Birmingham and contribute to supporting the wider Construction team across all of QBE’s UK offices. Our Construction and Engineering team provides insurance for some of the UK’s largest contractors and major UK and European projects. We cover a broad spectrum of construction risks, from building works and machinery installation to complex civil engineering projects. Your new role includes:
- Underwriting insurance risks in accordance with the Business Plan and the personal authority to meet business objectives.
- Building and maintaining strong relationships with stakeholders including customers, brokers, business partners and colleagues, to maximise influence.
- Participating fully and using your expertise to shape and develop strategy, knowledge and best practice.
- Positively promoting the department, division and company as a whole, in order to maximise brand leverage.
- Complying with all legal and regulatory requirements to ensure obligations are met.
- Adhering to underwriting standards, instructions and good practice to minimise risk and maximise efficiency.
- Actively keeping abreast of market dynamics and demonstrating market cycle awareness to operate effectively and appropriately.
Having the right to work in the UK is a requirement for this role. QBE may consider sponsorship at its discretion.
About You:
- Thorough understanding of CAR, EAR and Contractors Plant insurance.
- Good understanding of the opportunities and challenges within the UK construction industry.
- Ability to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
- Capability to analyse and interpret data.
- Intermediate level understanding of relevant software, including Excel and other departmental software packages.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
