We are a small, well-established fit-out contractor based near Stevenage, delivering high-quality interior fit-out projects across commercial and residential sectors. About the Role
We are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of our fit-out projects. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants broad experience, responsibility, and the opportunity to learn directly from senior team members in a small contractor setting. You will work closely with the Managing Director and Senior Quantity Surveyor, assisting with cost control, procurement, and commercial reporting from project start through to completion.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with cost planning and budget control for fit-out projects
- Supporting the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
- Preparing and issuing subcontract enquiries and comparisons
- Assisting with valuations, applications for payment, and cost reports
- Monitoring project costs and cash flow
- Assisting with the assessment of variations and change control
- Supporting the agreement of final accounts
- Maintaining accurate commercial records
- Liaising with site teams, suppliers, and clients as required
Requirements
- Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
- Previous experience within construction or fit-out (preferred but not essential)
- Strong numerical and organisational skills
- Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
- Willingness to learn and take on responsibility
- Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
- Ability to work well within a small team environment
