Working pattern: Hybrid – 3 days office/site-based, 2 days working from home

We are a small, well-established fit-out contractor based near Stevenage, delivering high-quality interior fit-out projects across commercial and residential sectors. About the Role

We are looking for an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to support the commercial management of our fit-out projects. This role is ideal for someone early in their career who wants broad experience, responsibility, and the opportunity to learn directly from senior team members in a small contractor setting. You will work closely with the Managing Director and Senior Quantity Surveyor, assisting with cost control, procurement, and commercial reporting from project start through to completion.

Responsibilities

  • Assisting with cost planning and budget control for fit-out projects
  • Supporting the procurement of subcontractors and suppliers
  • Preparing and issuing subcontract enquiries and comparisons
  • Assisting with valuations, applications for payment, and cost reports
  • Monitoring project costs and cash flow
  • Assisting with the assessment of variations and change control
  • Supporting the agreement of final accounts
  • Maintaining accurate commercial records
  • Liaising with site teams, suppliers, and clients as required

Requirements

  • Degree or HNC/HND in Quantity Surveying or a related construction discipline
  • Previous experience within construction or fit-out (preferred but not essential)
  • Strong numerical and organisational skills
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Willingness to learn and take on responsibility
  • Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
  • Ability to work well within a small team environment
