Uptivity is an award-winning, innovative tech company based in Newcastle, with an international customer base and a growing portfolio of SaaS applications. We’re scaling fast - and looking for an ambitious, curious, and tech-savvy individual to join us as Software Engineer Apprentice. This is an exciting opportunity to join our expert engineering team while completing your Level 4 Software Engineering apprenticeship.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with senior engineers to design, develop, and maintain modern web applications.
- Contribute to Uptivity’s product development roadmap with hands-on experience across front-end, back-end, and DevOps.
- Get involved in client-facing work, including product demos, onboarding, and training.
- Support local IT infrastructure and help maintain our cloud-based environments.
Tech stack you’ll be working with:
- Languages & frameworks: PHP (Laravel, CodeIgniter, etc.), React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS.
- Databases: SQL / NoSQL.
- Tools: Git, Figma, Canva.
- Cloud: AWS, hosting, backups, security.
- Development practices: MVC, OOP, APIs, Microservices, Agile, DevOps.
- Extras: AI-based process automation, system documentation, UI/UX design.
What we’re looking for:
- A fast learner with a passion for technology and problem-solving.
- A proactive team player who takes initiative and ownership.
- Strong communication skills and the confidence to work with clients.
- Curiosity and a “can-do” attitude — you’re not afraid of a challenge.
- A basic understanding of web/app development (or a willingness to learn quickly!)
- A driving licence is a bonus, but not essential.
Entry requirements:
- The learner must have completed a Level 3 Software Development Apprenticeship with QA or have an equivalent qualification with another training provider OR an A-level in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) subject and a successful completion of our aptitude test OR a BTEC Diploma in IT and a successful completion of our aptitude test OR 2 years’ experience in a relevant role and successful completion of our aptitude test.
- You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance you could still be considered for the programme.
- If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
Working hours: 40 hours per week.
