Within IDG, the Infrastructure & Operations (I&O) team ensures reliable, secure, and high‑performing IT systems and networks, supporting teaching, research, and administration across campus.

Join our Cloud & Hosting team and kick‑start your career in IT! You will work alongside experienced Cloud Engineers, gaining hands‑on experience in managing and supporting virtualised server environments and Cloud platforms.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Provisioning and maintaining virtual resources using VMware and other hosting technologies.
  • Supporting Microsoft Azure administration and resource management.
  • Resolving hosting‑related support incidents and service requests.
  • Monitoring system performance, capacity, and alerts across Cloud and on‑prem environments.
  • Assisting with operating system patching and updates.
  • Contributing to planned upgrade and refresh programmes for hosting platforms.
  • Maintaining documentation and following operational procedures.

You will also complete structured training leading to a Level 4 DevOps Engineer qualification.

  • Demonstrable IT skills gained through a formal role, education, or hobby.

  • Ability to manage time and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent spoken and written communication skills and ability to build effective relationships.
  • Strong digital competence (Microsoft 365, email, internet).

Entry requirements:

A Level in STEM subject, or BTEC Diploma in STEM subject, or Level 3 IT apprenticeship. You may also have a combination of qualifications and experience which demonstrate the minimum foundation needed for the programme. In this instance, you could still be considered for the programme. If you hold international equivalents of the above qualifications, at the time of your application you must be able to provide an official document that states how your international qualifications compare to the UK qualifications.
