About The Role

Location: Birmingham (Louisa Ryland House)

Hybrid Working: 3 days on campus 2 days from home Monday-Friday 9am-5.30pm

Contract: Initially 12-month fixed term

Travel: Approximately twice per semester to Manchester (travel paid)

QA Higher Education is looking for a passionate and dynamic Lecturer in Computing Skills to join our Academic Community of Excellence (ACE) team in Birmingham. Students may access the ACE team for additional academic support beyond their timetabled lectures. Participation is entirely voluntary and designed to enhance computing and study skills. Students are welcome to engage with the team for personalised computing and academic guidance for their needs. What you’ll be doing:

  • Delivering engaging one to one tutorials and group workshops in computing and digital skills (face-to-face and online)
  • Supporting students across a wide range of computing programmes to build confidence and succeed academically
  • Creating innovative computing and digital skills learning resources and video guides for our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE)
  • Collaborating with colleagues to enhance the student journey and promote ACE across QAHE events
  • Travelling to Manchester twice per 12-week semester to support learners on‑site

What we’re looking for:

  • A degree in Computer Science or related field
  • Experience with Java, Python, C, SQL/NoSQL, HTML/CSS/JavaScript, and Excel
  • Passion for teaching and mentoring, with a student‑first mindset
  • Experience in delivering tutorials/workshops and using digital tools to enhance learning
  • Knowledge of the challenges faced by widening participation students
