This is a great opportunity for a PhD graduate with strong analytical skills to explore a career in management consulting through our 3-month Research Analyst role based in our London office. This will run between 7/9 - 27/11/26.

About the Analytics Hub

Q5’s ‘Analytics Hub’ provides specialist analytical capability to support our team to deliver a range of management consulting projects. You will work with a cross-disciplinary team from a variety of quant-focused backgrounds, giving you the opportunity to apply and grow your skills, while learning about new methods and sectors. It is an incredibly exciting time for the business, with the team growing rapidly and working across a wide spread of client challenges including:

  • Analysis in support of operating model redesign
  • Predictive modelling and statistical analysis of operational data
  • Benchmarking using available market data
  • Business transformation to reduce operating costs
  • Modelling future workforce needs
  • Financial analysis and scenario modelling to support strategic reorientation
  • Designing strategic management dashboards
  • Culture diagnostics drawing together people and survey data

About the Role

We are seeking a highly analytical Research Analyst to join our growing Analytics Hub. This role is designed for an individual who has recently completed a PhD or post-doctoral position in a quantitative discipline (Physical and Life Sciences, Statistics, etc.) and is interested in exploring a career in management consulting. To be successful in the role you will need to bring together solid quantitative skills, general problem-solving abilities, a creative and innovative mindset, alongside a collaborative, down-to-earth style. As a Research Analyst, you will have the opportunity to apply the advanced analytical, modelling and problem-solving skills developed through your academic research to complex business challenges faced by leading global organisations. Working alongside experienced consultants and analytics specialists, you will contribute to high-impact client engagements across a variety of sectors and service offerings. You will play an active role in delivering analytics projects, developing innovative analytical approaches and helping clients make better decisions using their data. The role offers a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between academia and industry, combining rigorous quantitative thinking with practical business problem-solving. There may be the opportunity for this role to progress to a permanent role within the Analytics Hub at the end of the internship period.

Key responsibilities

  • Support consulting engagements through the application of advanced quantitative methods, statistical techniques and data science
  • Conduct analyses and develop models to create actionable business insights and support client decision-making
  • Design and build dashboards, visualisations and analytical tools for clients and project teams
  • Support the development of innovative analytical solutions and intellectual property for the Analytics Hub
  • Collaborate closely with consultants and clients to understand business problems and translate them into analytical approaches
  • Present findings and recommendations in a clear and compelling manner to both technical and non-technical audiences

Requirements

Essential

  • Recently completed PhD or post-doctoral research in a technical/quantitative discipline (Physical and Life Sciences, Statistics, etc.)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, demonstrated through academic research or applied projects
  • Experience working with complex datasets and developing quantitative models
  • Proficiency in Python, R, or similar analytical programming languages
  • Strong statistical analysis and modelling skills
  • Experience in cleaning, transforming and analysing structured and unstructured data
  • Ability to communicate complex analytical concepts clearly and effectively
  • Curiosity about business challenges and an interest in applying quantitative methods outside academia
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills

Desirable

  • Experience with AI, machine learning, simulation or forecasting techniques
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau
  • Exposure to organisational, workforce, operational or financial datasets
  • Interest in supporting our healthcare practice (which is a growing area for the firm)
