We are seeking a motivated and technically competent Fire Safety Engineer to join our growing fire engineering team. The successful candidate will play a key role in the development of fire safety strategies across the RIBA Stage Gate Process, supporting a wide range of projects within the built environment. The role will also involve assisting in the drafting and review of Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEWs), providing technically robust and proportionate fire safety solutions, particularly where designs fall outside prescriptive guidance. This is a remote-first role, offering flexibility and autonomy, while still involving occasional site visits across the UK.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and contribute to Fire Safety Strategies throughout all relevant RIBA Stages (0–7).
  • Apply performance-based fire engineering principles to develop compliant, pragmatic design solutions.
  • Provide technical advice where designs fall outside or deviate from prescriptive guidance (e.g. Approved Documents, BS guidance).
  • Assist in the preparation and review of Fire Risk Appraisals of External Walls (FRAEWs).
  • Support client project teams with fire engineering input during design development, planning, and construction stages.
  • Review architectural and technical drawings using digital tools.
  • Liaise with clients, design teams, and other stakeholders to explain fire safety concepts and proposed solutions clearly.
  • Attend site visits as required to support project delivery.
  • Contribute to internal technical discussions, quality assurance, and continuous improvement.

Essential Requirements

  • Undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in Fire Engineering (or closely related discipline).
  • Minimum 2 years’ demonstrable experience working in fire safety within the built environment (consultancy, contractor, authority, or similar).
  • Good understanding of performance-based fire engineering solutions.
  • Ability to assess and justify fire safety solutions beyond prescriptive guidance.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Computer literate within a Microsoft Office environment.
  • Ability to use Bluebeam and/or AutoCAD.
  • Willingness and ability to travel for site visits when required.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Skills and Experience

  • Experience undertaking or supporting Fire Risk Assessments for residential and commercial buildings.
  • Familiarity with PAS 9980:2022 and the systematic approach to FRAEWs.
  • Knowledge of computational fire modelling tools such as FDS and/or PyroSim.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary design teams.

What We Offer

  • Fully remote working with flexible arrangements.
  • Exposure to a wide range of technically challenging and interesting projects.
  • Supportive and collaborative working environment.
  • Opportunities for professional development and career progression.
  • Competitive salary, commensurate with experience (£45,000 per annum).
