Our client is seeking an organised, proactive Transport Planner to effectively plan multi-site transport activities, fully utilising their own fleet alongside subcontract haulage. The role is key to delivering high levels of customer service while achieving daily revenue targets, ensuring compliance with Drivers’ Hours legislation and vehicle maintenance requirements.
You will build strong relationships with customers and drivers, communicate clearly, and respond quickly to any issues that arise in a fast-paced, operational environment. This role is fully office based.
Key Responsibilities- Plan fleet and subcontractor usage to meet all customer delivery time windows at minimum operational cost
- Work closely with the Transport Manager and fellow planners to achieve daily own-vehicle revenue targets
- Secure and manage third-party backhaul revenue in line with weekly targets
- Control subcontractor usage to maintain required margins and revenue levels
- Use the Transport Management System daily to produce accurate and complete traffic sheets
- Brief drivers daily on start times, load details and delivery requirements
- Maintain regular contact with customers to ensure service levels are consistently met
- Monitor adherence to the load plan throughout the day and take corrective action where required
- Maintain closer contact with agency drivers as necessary
- Demonstrate flexibility around start times and working hours, including occasional unsociable shifts
- Fully utilise IT systems and maintain accurate system records
- Carry out any other reasonable duties as required
- Experience within general haulage, pallet networks or groupage preferred
- Proven experience of load planning, ideally within a multi-site operation
- Strong understanding of vehicle utilisation and transport operations
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a high-pressure environment
- Confident communicator with the ability to issue clear instructions
